J.R. Johnson is a singer, guitarist, and songwriter based in Fort Worth, Texas. Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, he is a recent graduate of Texas Christian University’s School of Music. His sound draws from country, folk, blues, rock, and jazz, reflecting the wide range of stories and traditions that inspire him. Performing allows him to connect with anyone who will listen, sharing the universal language of music in a way that feels both authentic and personal.

In 2024, J.R. had the privilege of performing as part of The Voyagers, the resident country duo aboard Carnival Valor. During that time, he and his partner played six nights a week for audiences from around the world, drawing from a songbook of nearly 300 tunes that celebrated the history of country, folk, and blues music. The experience taught him the importance of collaboration, adaptability, and the power of live performance. He also developed a deep appreciation for the community of artists and crewmates he worked alongside, each of whom brought their own culture and story to life on board.

Now back in Texas, J.R. performs regularly both as a solo artist and with his friend and bandmate, Caleb Sam Brown. Together, they have played at historic venues including Luckenbach Dancehall and Gruene Hall, and J.R. remains active in the Fort Worth music community as a Choral Scholar at Broadway Baptist Church. Whether it is an intimate acoustic set or a packed dancehall, he strives to create moments that feel real, heartfelt, and alive.
